Balsar and Katherine are maternal great grandparents of Isaac White
In 1743 Johannes H. M. Mundschauer came to the American colonies on the ship Loyal Judith. This is reported to be the father of Balthasar Mundschauer who was born near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1760. It has been reported that Balthasar got into a fight with his father and moved with his friend Christian Hendrik to Ontario. He also moved with his young family that included his wife Katherine (surname unknown) and 5 children (John, George, Jacob, Betsy, Polly). There he anglicized his name and changed it to Balsar (sometimes Balsor) Munshaw. This was the first Munshaw in Canada. His daughter Susan was said to be the first white child born in Vaughn Township. A son Aaron became a rebel in the Rebellion of 1837 and moved to U.S. until amnesty was proclaimed, at which time he returned and ran a hotel. Some details are recorded in “Early Days in Richmond Hill.”
Their daughter Elizabeth married James Fulton Jr. on February 2, 1809 and a daughter of that union, Catherine Meyers Fulton (1814-1900), eventually married Thomas White and had 6 children. The third child was Isaac James White.
And that is how we know we are connected to the Munshaws of Ontario! We are always looking for more information and connections.
